before your session

Please have your horse ready, brushed and relatively clean before your session. A place free of major distractions and extra noise, dogs, etc will result in more focus and better results for your animal. If possible to work out of the wind, rain, snow, we will have better results.

During the session

The Masterson Method® works with the nervous system. We will have the best results if we allow the animal to focus on the work, so please try to abstain from petting, distracting or interacting during the session. Keep in mind other distractions that could be reduced: food or hay they want to get at, other animals, etc. If they have a herd buddy, sometimes having them nearby is helpful, it can also be beneficial to another animal through neurological observation known as mirror neurons.

After the session

To get the most out of the session, it’s best to give the animal time to integrate the work that’s been done. Generally it’s best to turn them out, and refrain from riding, training, working them that day if possible.
